Integration is the Real Innovation
By Jordan Cicoria, President & CEO, AERIUM Analytics
As we gear up for another busy season, I’ve been reflecting on something we see every day: technology doesn’t solve problems on its own. It’s not just about the hardware and software, but where that tech fits into the real world, how it integrates into safe operations, how it integrates into the workflows of our clients, and how it pulls out better data more rapidly.
Our work in Australia. It has been a major focus for us, driven by the unique conditions and real challenges that kept us practical and adaptable every step of the way.
With Q1 and Phase 1 of our project in partnership with HORT Innovation now complete, we are gearing up for what comes next. Phase 2 is being deployed headinginto May, and we are stepping into it with a clearer, sharper way of working. We’ve taken all the learnings from Phase 1 and applied them directly so we can deliver improvements.
That same mindset is shaping how we grow internally. We have been refining the way we onboard and train, while strengthening the systems that underpin our operations.
The goal is straightforward: we want every team member fully prepared long before they start a project. It is deliberate, it raises the bar across the entire company, and most importantly, it helps us stay safe and consistent across all types of projects.
Back in Canada, our vegetation and wildlife management operations are moving fast. We’re seeing real growth in demand as more partners look to support these programs at scale, and with upcoming regulatory changes announced by the PMRA (Learn more here) adding further momentum, this is becoming a significant part of how we show up for our clients.
This goes beyond hazing and deterrence, it includes sweeps, surveys, and active work with regulators to open these markets and bring drone solutions into more corners of the industry.
We’re also pushing further into midstream while maintaining our presence in upstream and forestry opportunities This is the kind of work where precision is everything, it’s the direct link to safety, environmental responsibility, and keeping critical infrastructure running exactly as it should.
I also had the opportunity to spend time at DEFSEC West in Calgary. It’s important and valuable being in those rooms, talking with partners and collaborators, and hearing exactly where the industry is headed. With the government’s recent Defence Industrial Strategy announcement, there’s a clear sense of momentum around dual-use technologies like drones.
Looking ahead, our focus isn’t simply on flying more or doing more or building more. It’s about being smarter about all those things, the intentional integration of data, procedure, process, and safety to protect our infrastructure, the environments we operate in, our people, and our clients.
We’re thinking bigger. New markets are opening, the commercial landscape for drone technology is shifting faster than ever, and we’re seeing real opportunities in sectors where precision, reliability, and scale matter, and we intend to be at the front of that.
We’ve laid the groundwork, and we’re seeing momentum across the world, particularly in agriculture, vegetation management, wildlife management, and defence-aligned programs, and we’re ready to build on it.
The opportunities are real, the strategy is clear, and the team is ready!
