We are proud of our close client and industry partnerships. These partnerships have enabled us to provide a suite of technological solutions including geospatial intelligence, data analytics, visualization, and software development to clients in a myriad of industries.

Edmonton International Airport

As Canada’s fifth busiest airport, the Edmonton International Airport (EIA) serves over 8 million passengers per year. Our partnership with EIA (which was established in 2017) has paved the way for extensive RoBird® testing, development, and commercialization – resulting in an 86% dispersal rate.

EIA is a leader in using drone technology, and together AERIUM Analytics and EIA were the first to integrate drones into airport operations on a daily basis (learn more). This mutually beneficial relationship has allowed both parties to combine their strengths in the pursuit of regulatory and operational advancement excellence.

Imperial Oil (ExxonMobil)

In partnering with Imperial Oil (a subsidiary of ExxonMobil) in 2020 – 2021, we were able to establish the effectiveness of RoBird® as an effective bird hazing tool. Three times the number of birds landed onto Imperial Oil infrastructure before the introduction of RoBird® wildlife methods. This went far to support Imperial Oil’s internal mandate of industry-leading stewardship within the energy and resource extraction sector and confirmed this technology as one that has the ability to make wide-sweeping impacts within the industry. Imperial Oil is also a collaborator with AERIUM Analytics on their Clean Resources Innovation Network grant project (see full details below).

Project SkySensus

Project SkySensus is an Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) project funded and led by Arcfield Canada. The project objective is to develop advancements and innovation of unmanned systems operations, airworthiness standards, and training, in addition to advancing the regulatory landscape in Ca nada.
We are a proud member of Project SkySensus in the research, development, and commercialization of Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) technology and advancement of both hardware and software developments related to drone industry operations, standards, and training. This important project represents a signal of growth in the unmanned aerial systems arena in Canada and provides us with an opportunity to contribute to Canada’s economic growth.

Clean Resources Innovation Network

Canada is leading the world in the creation of cleantech solutions. The Clean Resources Innovation Network (CRIN) is a pan-Canadian network of technology developers, researchers, academia, and more who are working to create a market to accelerate the widespread adoption of clean technology.

Courtesy of a $1 million CRIN grant, AERIUM is currently executing an Automated Wildlife Detection Network and RoBird® (Drone Ornithopter) project, which aims to provide a more effective and autonomous way to protect at-risk wildlife (birds), while delivering more data and details to wildlife management operators. National Research Council of Canada (Industrial Research Assistance Program)

The National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRCIRAP) provides support and funding to help Canadian businesses increase their innovation capacity and take ideas to market.

Lorrnel Group

Lorrnel Group is AERIUM’s sister company and is a professional services consultancy that has provided unparalleled value, return, and insights to the forestry, energy, mining, and logistics sectors for over 40 years.
Lorrnel has been able to support AERIUM in their access to the forestry industry, fostering relationships with key stakeholder firms, which has been pivotal in the development of innovative drone services. AERIUM is able to leverage Lorrnel’s fully functioning GIS department as needed, allowing AERIUM to offer geospatial drone services to clients.

Calgary Economic Development

As the economic development agency tasked with creating long-term prosperity and opportunities for Alberta’s largest city, Calgary Economic Development (CED) partners with innovative problem-solvers who are embracing advanced technology.
AERIUM is a participant in the Calgary Living Lab initiative, granting us access to make use of City of Calgary land, transportation corridors, and public spaces for testing purposes. Calgary is the first major city to allow mass testing of commercial drones and its proximity to Canada’s largest Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) testing site helps make it an industry leader. Federal Aviation Administration

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulates all aspects of American civil aviation. AERIUM pilots undergo extensive training through the Canadian Small Unmanned Aircraft System (sUAS) in order to acquire an FAA Part 107 Commercial sUAS pilot license. Under FAA rules, drone pilots flying in or around airports are held to the same mental and physical fitness standards as commercial aviation pilots, including lung function tests, vision and colour blindness tests, and hearing exams.
Furthermore, AERIUM is actively working with the FAA on testing standards for the use of drones and data collection at airports.

University of Alberta

The University of Alberta (U of A) is one of Canada’s leading research universities. AERIUM has worked with the U of A on several projects, including the Automated Wildlife Detection Network and the RoBird® Deterrence System project.
The U of A partnership includes the participation of it’s computer science Multimedia Research Centre, which will focus on developing AI tools and algorithms for target object monitoring payload on the RoBird®, supporting the drone in automatically identifying, counting, tracking, and reporting on nearby birds. In addition to partnering on these projects, there is an opportunity to partner with the school on student internship opportunities.

Transport Canada

Transport Canada is responsible, on behalf of the Government of Canada, for developing regulations, policies, and services of air transportation in Canada (as well as road, rail, and marine transport). AERIUM achieved a recent milestone, when Transport Canada issued approval for the first commercial Special Flights Operation Certificate offered to a Canadian UAV to fly BVLOS in the Alberta oilsands. We work very closely with Transport Canada on both BVLOS testing and regulatory strategies.

NAV Canada

NAV Canada is a privately run, non-profit organization that owns and operates Canada’s civil air navigation system. AERIUM works closely with NAV Canada, localized Flight Information Regions (FIRs), and local police forces to ensure safe and compliant operations. AERIUM also works hand in hand with NAV Canada to ensure the safe integration of drones into airports.
